I love hearing how my horses have impacted others in their daily lives…

I attended Laura’s classes from 2014 – 2017, during the autumn and winter. My long term plan is to rescue a horse, so I wanted to learn basic care and handling!! I came away with so much more. Laura’s gentle horse guidance techniques made me aware how tense I was most of the time. The horse was confused by me because of my subtle body postures. I was amazed that I could command the horse to walk back by the tiniest wiggle of my index finger, tell it to move forward by tilting my head, and direct it by leaning slightly. Laura told me that a horse is much too big to force to do anything, and that I had to partner with the horse. She asked me to stand and observe several horses in the meadow to see how a slight pricking of the ears signaled welcoming or warning to other horses. I learned how much I didn’t know. Apart from that, I found my approach to larger problems in life changed and I also observed changes in my approach to classroom teaching. For example, I saw how my body posture affected the students more than my words. During the course of my lessons with Laura, I invited a variety of friends along. Parents with shy children, an older man, and a confused young woman. All of them were enthralled by the environment and spoke of Laura’s calm and competent way of interacting with people and horses. Work and travel are the reasons I take time away from my horse lessons, but I look forward to resuming next autumn. I recommend this experience to everyone.
